This TIP is more for newbies to Linux, but...

If you want an ACPI compliant box to wake up video that power mgt in BIOS has turned off while on KVM, fastest way is the same keyboard button that BIOS still thinks is the Power Button -- the lower left CTRL key on keyboard. Mine wakes up twice as fast that way as moving the mouse, and can awaken from a Suspend To RAM that way (Linux Mandrake 9.2, 9.1, and 9.0, 8.2 woke sluggishly but that was the kernel vs ACPI). For Folding's sake, HD is always on. This works with DDC2 compliant cards and monitors for best results, and if either or both are not, then tell the BIOS to refresh video on wakeup as well as use Power Button.

Little thing that works for both older Windows and most Linux. BSD might like it also, depending on kernel dev state in BSD, I do not know that part well.
