This is an oddball thing in RE KVM vs BIOS.

I have an MSI KT4VL with Barton 2500+ and a P4 running on a SoyoTek Board. Both are plugged into an Omniview 4-port baby KVM switch with PS2 emulation for mouse and keyboard. I have tried disabling PS2 emulation on the KVM, but that does not change what it happening, and it is a USB<->PS2 MOUSE adapter issue being reported as a Keyboard error on the MSI KT4VL that is occuring.
The only box that does this is the MSI-KT4VL box, with any recent BIOS that supports Bartons right-- possibly a BIOS issue in part. I can plug the mouse into the USB on the MSI-KT4VL box IF I use a USB extender and A\A gender changer cable to lengthen the USB from the transceiver\charger on the MX700, but I think this is part the way they did power also as the power from wall that is used by the charger is plugged into the back of the USB connection. And the board is sensing that NO power is being drawn from the PS2 power line pin.
What I want to do is to avoid a keyboard misconnect error, and the fact that this BIOS upgrade set has no option to ignore keyboard errors. Any more advanced folks with ideas??? I KNOW the USB connector power trace is not drawing power for the MX700 transceiver\charger base, BTW, and it is not feeding positive feedback out either.
Is this just a conundrum, or does anyone know if a lack of power is being transmitted through the KVM also as an error??? Oh, irony, the Microsoft optical mouse (I have tried a couple) with a Microsoft PS2\USB adapter on it, gives SAME results on the MSI-KT4VL, and no keyboard of 5 I have tried that are pure PS2 keybords or adapted from a keyboard AT connect get no keyboard error. So, must be the MX700 IF I pull the optical mice out of service, no keyboard error at all from the MSI-KT4VL. Right now, the best mice for my use are opticals, and most do not come native with PS2 connectors only as they need the power draw capacity in USB unless fed through the wall. A KVM sans emulation capability (remember I said ti did not matter if I had it on or off with a Keyboard Key switch does not fix) does not yield this error. Replacing the KVM cables with cable harnesses made from known good individual cables does not fix this, either.
It happens with the line for the mouse (MX700) disconnected from the box it is plugged into now and with the mouse on KVM, for BOTH mice.
Boxes all keyboard wake with this error present, ZERO hangs in PM of any sort. Mice work once boxes are booted.
Has anyone had this and disconnected the male power pin on the USB\PS2 (Male) adapter and had it vaporize??? That is the next step, as the Omniview does not like to feed only video in powerless mode and draws on PS2 power for power source.
John-- sorry it was long, this has lasted months.
