what's up people...

ok, my latest problem revolves around internet explorer. whenever i search for something using any search engine (google, yahoo, lycos, msn, anything) the page with what the search engine found comes up, but the page never fully loads. instead, the progress bar at the bottom of the window freezes at just near completely loading, and the window freezes, forcing me to manually close it. this happens every single time i search for something, and it's getting really annoying. anyone have any ideas?

i've ran the most recent update of adaware and my antivirus program, but the problem still persists.

if anyone has a suggestion for me (other than using an alternative browser) i'd greatly appreciate it. thanks!

Have you checked for spyware? Removed any spyware lately? (Particular those lousy browser hijackers).

Try running Spybot and HijackThis! and see what happens.

(If you need help finding them, just let me know.)

Yes, that and the latest IE security pack, which is a fairly large rollup pack for IE 6.0 SP1 and appeared this week-- AFAIK, did not see it last week and was on WindowsUpdate yesterday-- might help some. These days, for client IE support, I keep a few CDs of the full IE 6.0 SP1 handy (ordered from Microsoft a while back). Sometimes easiest to reload a corrupt browser set from a dist pack, and this CD is a full IEAK (IE admin kit, with Media Player, etc. and customizeable at install time). Also, empty any tmep internet files you might have on box, that thing (IE) has a limited index and overflowing that is best fixed by exiting, wiping the temp internet files, reopening IE, and letting it rebuild it temp index to suit itself at load time. You can do this from within IE's options dialog set, but can lose history and cookies also if not careful. Cookies can be used to track, most sites use them only to track on site you are on or feed ads or let you login autmagically, and cookie list can also overflow eventually-- search engines can use this to track searches, some gen a lot of cookies on your box that IE tracks.
