Vista laptop can't connect to wireless LAN

I took a Laptop with vista away from it's usual location, and ran it on a different Wi-fi network for a few days. Now it's back to its home, and it's having issues. It can see the wireless router in the list of available networks, and it can see the strength bars at full, but when I click 'connect', it says that it cannot do so. Another laptop, sitting right next to it, can see and connect just fine.

I'm raking my brain, but I don't know where to start with this issue.

I'm not very familiar with vista, so if you need more info, let me know.

I thought your laptops both have XP. You didn't downgrade, did you!?!

I'd delete that wireless network from the preferred networks list and set it up from scratch again. I had to do that a few times on my desktop when I had vista, and I didn't even ever move it to a different network.

How do I get to the preferred networks list?

Go to Network And Sharing Center from the CP and click Manage Wireless Networks. This should pull up the preferred networks list.

Did this work? Have you figured out why you even have a Vista laptop in the first place?

I don't know yet if it worked. I was posting for someone else this time.

Try removing the network adapter in Device manager but DONT delete the driver. Scan for new hardware and let it reinstall.

This will clear the network settings saved on the laptop and when you try to connect it will inherit the settings from the router

Vista,s workgroup is WORKGROUP,XP is usaly MSHOME.change all workgroups to same name.

    Check firewall for allow.

Check networks are set to share there are a few things you should be checking on main pc and the vista one.
