wireless router connectivity issues

edited May 2008 in Science & Tech
Hi everyone!

I hope this is the right place to post, I apologize in advance if it is not.

I am having some issues with my Linksys wireless BEFW11s4 router. I have spent several hours on the phone wiht Linksys and they have determined that the problem is that since I used to be connected to cable internet, but have now switched back to DSL, the router needs to be reconfigured (I have a Westell model through verizon). However, since the router is out of warranty, they want to charge me to tell me how to fix it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

I connect great when I am connecting wired to the router, I also have an excellent wireless connection - I just can't get anywhere on the internet.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Easiest way would be resetting it by pressing a small button the router has on the back. While connected with a cable, run the set up cd if avaliable or the user guide (link).

Aside from that, you could check what settings the router is using (I've never used Linksys so I wouldn't know how), and see where they differ on the computer. TCP/IP settings may be different on the wireless adapter and stuff like that.

Log into the router, and on the main page there will be a dropdown that has the following options:

    DHCP
    PPPoE
    PPPoA
    RASPPPoE

    And more.

Change it to PPPoE, and provide the login details for your DSL account. Save, reboot the router. Et voila.
