I was so disapointed in Tie vs. Xwing. I WANT, no, I NEED a good Star Wars space combat MP sim. Please Mr. Lucas?? You'll make money off of anything, how about this one little thing, or at least get the Homeworld engine and do a 3d combat one (Rebellion was ok, but so far behind in the combat aspect)

I bought that game with _zero_ advance knowledge of what it was about. I was at Electronics Boutique and like, "hey, it's Square, it's got mecha." I get home, put it in my PS2, and don't leave my room for 48 hours. I had to turn down the volume while the folks were sleeping.

Xenogears is my no.1 favorite RPG. BTW, I'm hosting the Xenosaga II trailers if anyone doesn't want to wait three days to download them anywhere else:
Xenosaga II: Beyond Good and Evil Trailer 1 (DivX 5) 44.6MB
Xenosaga II: Beyond Good and Evil Trailer 2 (QT) 90.5MB

Hey Worms is one awesome game. (well a couple really) I like Worms Armageddon a lot. Hilarious for friends and it has a monstrous learning curve for becoming a good roper - well worth it. A great many games never require so much skill for any part of them. It's a cool niche. Anyone else 'rope' by any chance?
  • edited December 2003
well i'm pretty sure you could guess it was my favorite game too, with my alias and avatar and all.

haha just saw the pic. My avatar is the original of that pic, just grayscaled.

Oh yeah, roping is the best! I always thought that the rope was better in the original Worms game than in the later ones though, but I thought the level of mobility the ninja rope injected into the game was great!

That grayscale was my desktop wallpaper for awhile (1024x768) :D. Have the Winamp skins too.

As far as Worms goes, I liked it a bunch, but I don't think it quite makes the "gaming binge" list. It took me a good deal of time to get the hang of the ninja rope and the SuperSheep. Mmmm... sheep.

I'll try to keep this short...my top games of all time, initially, in order of preference.

    1. Quake I 3wave ctf and DM/clan arena(PC) - I've yet to find another game I'm as passionate about.

    2. Sid Meier's Pirates! (C64..and also Amiga, NES, Genesis) - the only game to ever come close to sucking up as many years of my life as Quake has. ...and a SEQUEL HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!

...and now, the pack in no major order:
Age of Empires/Kings with expansions (PC) - The second best RTS games ever, as far as I'm concerned...only trumped by:

Rise of Nations (PC) - the most FLAWLESSLY executed RTS ever! Expansion pack due out soon with even more features.

Defender of the Crown (C64, NES, GBA) - my introduction to turn-based strategy, which led to countless hours with:

KOEI games (Romance of the 3 Kingdoms, Genghis Khan, Bandit Kings of Ancient China, Nobunaga's Ambition, etc) (PC, NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2) - I've learned so much about ancient Japan, China, and Mongolia because of these...

Europa Universalis II (PC) - like KOEI games, but much more involved. Makes Civilization look like Child's play.

Super Metroid (SNES) - One of the first games I played EXCLUSIVELY until it was completed.

Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy (NES...and FF remake on PS1)

Atomic Bomberman (PC) - awesome multiplayer fun!

Die by the Sword - Ogre Hockey (in Limb from Limb expansion) (PC) - the first night this was played at the computer gaming club at Auburn University, I was in tears from laughing so hard.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto (PC) - hilarious singleplayer and great multiplayer!

No One Lives Forever 2 & Aliens vs Predator 2 (PC) - so far, my 2 favorite single player FPS games ever. (I've never finished System Shock 1, 2, or Undying)

Unreal Tournament (PC) - the closest any multiplayer fps has ever come to matching Quake 1's brilliance...but still a ways off. Instagib Morpheus is awesome tho :)

DooM 1 & 2 (PC) - cuz it was just so sweet. Also played it on SNES and 32X before getting it on the "big toy". Then I discovered mods, and consoles were nearly dead for me from 1996 to 2001.

Final Fantasy VI (SNES) - cuz I lost a ton of time to it and loved it.

Mafia (PC): The acting, gameplay, story, and fully realized city just left my jaw on the floor! I hope in the upcoming sequel pedestrians are more talkative and you can enter more buildings, but still...WOW! Being able to park your car in Chinatown's main square, walking to the nearest tram terminal and hitching a ride cross town and watching the city just live around you is amazing.

I'm sure I left out a few, but this list is getting lengthy. I'd like to add another potential tho:

Beyond Good & Evil (PC, PS2, GC, XBox) - This charming game tells a great story through superb voice acting. The gameplay's not too complicated, but I highly recommend it! ...especially since it doesn't seem to be doing too well at retail despite tons of critical praise :(:(:( Another nail in the coffin for innovative games I guess.

    An aside:

Thanks for the links to Xenosaga II trailers, drasnor! I've been trying to find these from a non-registration required site :( Any clue when it might come out? I just finished Episode I...loved it for the story and can't wait for more, but the gameplay started getting a little tedious.
