A friend pc is running slow and the internet is slow.
I had this in the spyware thread and here's what was said.

Hello DogDragon,

Got a bit of a run-on multiple log posting thing here, but no infection showing. Spyware Doctor running with Norton can often cause actual system slowdowns, but with net slowdowns of course might be some Net2Go and Norton issues. Might want to follow up for ideas in the Icrontic Networking & Security forum.
So can you tell me what he DON"T need running or what he's
running that don't get along with each other.

Uninstall all protection programs. All of them.

Install AVG. Make him use Firefox. Teach him positive browsing habits.

None of the spyware shields work well, or come even close to catching spyware installs like AV programs do.

I'll second that I have to say that the current free AVG 8 with it's built in spyware scanning has been excellent.

    Ha-ha.

Some would say that's enough said.

A positive browsing habit is surprisingly hard to teach someone; some people believe that you really do have to click on everything on the screen.

My sister does that. She purchased a new laptop about 7 moths ago and I have already reformatted it and done a fresh install of windows. This machine was serious infected with anything you can think of, and for the longest time I couldn't figure out how she has accumulated so much crap in such a short time, until I saw her actually control click nearly every link on some website and opened 807234987719 tabs in IE7. So I had her tell me something she wanted to look up and showed her my browsing habits and told her about the wonders of AVG and Firefox. It's amazing how careful browsing in windows can help keep the install running smooth for extended periods of time.
