pc 6400 or pc5300?

edited June 2008 in Hardware
i'm not familiar with the ram speed numbers and what they mean... i'm going to upgrade my laptop to 4GB (2x2GB) Dual Channel

i visit crucial.com and i got a report saying my laptop supports DDR2 PC6400 and PC5300... what speeds are these?

modules i'll be getting are for ASUS G1S which runs a Core 2 Duo 7500 (2.2 GHz 4MB L2 Cache 800MHz FSB)

i know that my CPU FSB will determine what speed my RAM will run on... i'm unsure what speeds are PC6400 and PC5300

cheers for any advice...

In most notebooks you have choice about RAM speed, it will always run 5300.
But, if you buy faster RAM that has programed SPD settings at lower speeds that are tighter (say 4,4,4 instead of 5,5,5) you machine will pick that up and run the tighter timings.
