Check the manual, settlers can hold 3000 resources from a raid, that means big income while raiding, and you need a lot of resources for settlers, so they pay for themselves sometimes..

This guy was just unlucky...

Basically the only thing he knows is that he just got owned.

Not quite...

The attacker gets a full report if

1) They kill at least 25% of the defender
OR
2) At least one attacking troop survives (most likely in a raid, not normal attack)

If they kill enough to get a report, they don't see the message "None of your soldiers have returned" ...even if none of their soldiers return.

If a scouting mission fails, they don't get a report. Scouts have 0 attack points so they can't kill anything anyway. They must have at least 1 scout come back alive to get a report.
