So, on a DDR3 board, you can use DDR2 ram in it, to upgrade later, correct?

    no, DDR3 only.

    correct. DDR3 requires 1.5V and DDR2 requires 1.8 minimum however most DDR2 runs @ 2.2V. not to mention the physical difference in the slot.
