Ok, so as you see i finally got DSL back, i am happy as a little kid in a candy store, but there is one problem, im not getting my maximum signal, when i run tests on my line (www.broadbandreports.com) it says i have a connection of 544kbps, that is close to normal but its not, i orderd the 640k service and i got that, now, im not blaming it on MSN BUT, this is what i think the problem is:

Ok, i dont have a phonline in my room, so i had to drag a phoneline from the Kitchen all the way to my room (under the rug) now i didnt have a line long enough so i had to use Line connectors, i finally got it to my room (the house is not that big its only a 2 bedroom house with a kitchen living room and bathroom) and now i am connected, but the problem is when i play games that need high bitrates (like Counter-Strike) my ping SUCKS! i get about 90 ping on all the local servers, and before i would get about 60 and 40 ping, is it because of the line that i dragged from the kitchen or what? is there any signal boosters or anything like that that i can buy to boost the signal? what can i do? i dont wanna have to buy a wireless NIC and a Wireless Router.... waht can i do!!??

PLEASE HELP!!:banghead:

Instead of a wireless router, buy an Ethernet based router. I'm pretty sure Cat5 has better signaling than Cat3. That would eliminate any signal degredation if there is any in the first place.

My cable service is rated for 1.2mbp/s, but I usually only get 1mbp/s. That sounds normal for your service (Especially since it's MSN.. :p ). When they offer 640kb/s, they're probably saying that's the max you'll ever get, but it's not average speed.

You can't trust what msn tells you, especially since you called and complained about your internet not being on, their probably just screwing with you, hehe

I would call the phone company and ask them to do a static check for your phone line. Tell them to check for line noise. That is what we tell our customers for the isp I work for, and most of the time it will clear up any line troubles they have.

You're testing within 85% of your linespeed; you're right on target. Nothing's wrong. You don't need to buy anything.

If you download at 64 kilobytes a second, give or take 10, you're right on target.

Don't expect pings lower than 90 out of a 64k line on a regular basis.
