There's a new single-GPU speed king in town today, thanks to NVIDIA launching the GeForce GTX 280 graphics card, and it's slightly slower sibling, the GTX 260. They'll hit shelves tomorrow, with the fat daddy GTX 280 setting early-adopters back $650 or so.

So what does it have to offer? Check out these fine reviews:

Sort of interesting is that the GTX 260 is expected to cost just under $400. Original word on the street said the price would be higher, but today's information says the launch price has dropped. Some are suggesting the lower price point is an effort to compete more with ATI, who is expected to introduce the HD 4800 series graphics cards any day now.

Ya know, it sucks to be two generations behind and have it be less then a year since I bought my last GPU.

    Truth

Must say the housing on the XFX cards looks slick. It's like today's modern cars. Lift the hood and you can't see the engine for all the plastic covers.

Finally a speed increase that's worth paying attention to. At a price not worth the same.

Seriously, $650 is a bad joke. However, I bet we'll see some quick price drops if the 48xx series is what it is rumored to be.

Man... my mouth is watering. Crysis at a solid, playable framerate maxed at 1900X1200? This card is great. In some cases, it's comparable if not better than 9800GTX in SLI.That's attractive.makes me want to upgrade... without the actual need of doing so.
