HELP! Can't get to desktop

I know the rules of posting here, but I can't get to my desktop to run required reports, etc.

My problem is that I can't get to my desktop. After PC boots up, it leaves me at a screen that says welcome and shows a user account (never did this before - always goes to desktop). If you click on the user account it shows that its loading my settings, but then it says its logging off and saving the settings. Safe mode logins or trying to boot to last known good config does the same thing. The logon is in some kind of infinite loop. Spybot may have had a hand in this....

Last night before shutting down, ran Spybot. It found three problems and I chose to fix them When it finished fixing them, I got a message regarding a registry change to winlogon. This is the only thing that I can think of that is causing this problem. The PC was perfectly fine before that.

I wrote to the emergency section of this forum and one response suggested a virus and possibly a windows recovery, which is why I'm repeating myself here. Any other thoughts of how I can get to my desktop or are there directions to recover windows without losing all of my personal material. Please tell me so! Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi vits5,

Do you have an install disc for your machine ?

If so, I recommend doing a Repair install.
This will not affect your personal files, only the OS
