EtronTech memory?

edited December 2003 in Hardware
I was recently looking at this bid on ebay and I was wondering if anyone has heard of this "'EtronTech'' memory thing. I've never personelly heard of it before, so I was hoping someone could fill me in. Is it faster than Samsung memory? Will it present an even higher overclock than all of its counterparts? Dicuss.

Samsung, Infineon, Hynix are the main Radeon Memory types. Anything else is suspect.

    Also for your reference....

Yeah, I figured. I wasn't going to bid on it or anything I had just never heard of it before. The dude claims Entrontech memory is faster than all it's brothers. Anyway just a little something I picked up on.

    EtronTech? Eww. No thanks.

Even though the modules are speed rated at 2.8ns (350 MHz), they operate in usually in CAS4 mode (CAS3 at the best), somewhat slower than the CAS2 counter-parts made by Samsung, Hynix and yes.. even Infineon.

What else? This EtronTech memory needs 2.8V to run at 350 MHz, so you aren't going to get much more out of that RAM in terms of overclocking.

The only Sapphire Radeon card I know of that uses the 9700 PCB and EtronTech memory is the Sapphire 9800SE, the 4-pipeline castrated version of it's real older brother, the 9800 Non-Pro.

As NS said, Samsung, Infineon & Hynix produce the main memory modules that you'll see on 99% of all video cards.

Plus, that's the Sapphire 9800NP that's built upon the 9700 PCB. Not sure if that changes anything, but Digit Life did a review of that exact card -vs- a real 9800 NP and the results were that the 9700 PCB'd 9800 performed slightly slower than the real thing. (between -3 to -5%). As well, this card is "grey-market" material, as it is not officially supported by Sapphire as it is not available in retail packaging. It was originally designed for an OEM or some other big-bidder and overstock is available for purchase from NewEgg and other online vendors.
