While Intel has introduced a raft of chipsets on the last six months, it has been relatively quiet in the green corner. Pleasantly, however, we have received word that AMD's long-awaited 790GX chipset is close to its debut.
AMD comes out of the gate with the promise that their "Sideport" technology will enable 10% superior performance just by using a new motherboard. They also come out swinging at Intel's G33 and NVIDIA's 8200 by reporting 33% superior performance with their IGP technology.
Lastly, rumor has long had it that the 790GX will boast enhanced overclocking abilities that will push the Phenom to previously-unseen clockspeeds, but this remains unverified.
All told, the chipset delivers a host of modern options and fixes, including:
While perhaps not a revolutionary chipset release, it is still an excellent step similar to that of the P35's replacement of the P965.
