Icrontic version 11 is coming

I get wrapped up in the staff area and forget to keep everyone else caught up on what's going on around here :D Here's a little update from behind-the-scenes.

We've been reorganizing our goals and structure as Brian works on the site day-by-day, the staff offers more input, and I beaver away at the underpinnings of the site. This has led to several things: refocusing on our hardware / tech roots, keeping the news and articles coming faster than they were, getting us onto a more stable and refined content system for our news and articles, and redesigning the site for better usability and sleeker look.

The upshot is that we're going to be using the Wordpress system soon, with a slick new layout designed by the staff. I'm one week into the transition; I currently estimate we'll be going live September 20.

Why do I call it version 10? Glad you asked  Here's my count to 9: Apu's, Icrontic original (purple), Icrontic blue, Icrontic dark (classic), Icrontic Citrix, Short-Media e107 (long load), Short-Media Dancode, Short-Media Draco, and Icrontic Draco (current).

Just want to mentally prepare you all for the new digs you're getting ;) Trust me, it's a vast improvement and far more fitting. :cool2: More updates as we get closer!

Digging deeper: Icrontic's first article (published as Apu's Hardware) on August 8, 2000 at 16:54:04 ET.

I had no idea Icrontic had so many clothes! I am excited to see what's next!

I don't understand the trade-off between Icrontic and Short-Media.. anyone mind explaining for me?

Check out the PriceWatch prices on the left hand side of the article; trip down memory lane.

Thank you Keebs for doing this; especially the different versions of apus/icrontic/sm

BTW: This system was the first AMD based system I had ever seen or used and I was incredibly impressed by the performance vs my dads PIII 733 system and my celeron 466 system. About two months after this article, Keith (Mortin, founder of IC) helped me price and put together my first Athlon system (only because pushing my celeron 466 failed and I can still remember his cursing when it failed to boot above 533(this was also the system of mine taken in the FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) raid when he (Mortin) was accused of a DDoS attack)).

    Good times.

I started reading during the blue theme in summer '02 and registered in the fall to bitch when the site b0rked during the terrible transition to the "infoBASE" dark theme. :D

Actually it would be v11 then, because you forgot Icrontic Light Blue (http://web.archive.org/web/20020927090358/http://www.icrontic.com/) that was coded by nsanity and ran with postnuke.

    but who's counting ;)

Respect just leveled +5 for ic. Wow.

Where does the name "Icrontic" originate from anyway? Anyone?

It was inspired by a linux operation called a "cron job." But it's not taken from anything.

Mortin just wanted a name that was unique.
