Advice needed for Cloning/Ghosting linux drive

I'm trying to clone a drive we use at work that runs a very specific program in a linux environment. I have tried using HDClone (freeware) and Norton Ghost. Neither have worked (to varying degrees).

Norton Ghost got as far as booting LILO but then hit a snag finding the root folder and gave a message "Kernel panic" and that's as far as it got.

Does anyone know a reason I might be having this trouble (usually when I have cloned a drive they boot up exactly as the old one did). I should mention that the drive I am trying to clone has three partitions and Norton Ghost did make each partition bigger to utilise the new hard drive's additional space, but I wouldn't have thought that a problem......I suppose i just need to know if there is either a better program to use or if someone can direct me how to use Norton Ghost's options to correctly copy the drive. I also have access to Acronis Image software if that is a better option???
