having trouble connecting..

So i got a dell desktop of my neighbors because there moving and i reformatted it with windows xp pro.. and i plugged in my ehternet and nothing happens... i'm assuming the network adapter driver i would have to install but dont have the disk for it..need help connecting if anyone can help
