OK... 20 days before I'm supposed to lose my job, they finally put a new PC on my desk. It makes folding at work useful though!

you should be able to run 2 clients if the processor has HT. I hear it has quite a performance boost.

I can steal your CD key from that windows install from that screenshot.

You might want to blur out that string of hyphenated numbers.

    Oops. Thanks Thrax.

shwaip: unfortunately, no HT. I checked that first! :D

Be sure to leave F@H on there running as a service when you go!

I can't - no admin access for me!

GHoosdum, that proc has HT support.

You'll need to go into the BIOS an enable HT (provided you can get BIOS access).

    The 3.06's had HT :D

Well then how did you install F@H and EM3 in the first place?

Damn, there must be some sort of underhanded way of doing it...

Thanks, SimGuy! I enabled it... but how do I set up the folding now? CPU1 is the setting for the Graphical client, and I set the console to run on CPU2, but I've only got one processor showing in task manager, and each says it's using 49% of THE processor... what did I do wrong?

//edit: Oh, yea, I DID use -local for each shortcut.

I just saved 'em to my desktop and double-clicked to run.

Well, I'm not exactly sure how to set things up with the graphical client, as I use the console clients.

All I did was setup 2 directories, one CPU1 and the other CPU2, and set both consoles up identically, short of their Machine ID (CPU1 got ID 1, CPU2 got ID2).

I use Client 3.24, so I use the -forceasm & -advmethods flags to force SSE instructions and to enable beta work units.

When both clients are running @ 100%, you should see 2 entries of FAHCORE_78 or FAHCORE_65 in Task Manager, each running at 50%. If you check your "Performance Tab", both virtual CPU's should be pegged @ 100% usage, like this:

Where the image below on my system shows "ACPI MultiProcessor PC" what does yours read?

20 days, you should be able to get at 35-40 WUs out of that. :ninja:

Yup, I'll get as many WUs as I can

SimGuy: The "second" processor doesn't show in task manager. I'll check what it says in System properties when I get into work on Monday...
  • TemplarTemplar You first.

In Device manager, under processors, you SHOULD have two processors listed. If not, check your BIOS and make sure it's on.

to enable HT the OS has to be installed or reinstalled after you enable it in the bios

otherwise the OS will not use the HT

Couldn't you just convert the PC type from ACPI Uniprocessor to ACPI MultiProcessor?

I know you can do it in WinNT, but it also involves replacing certain system files (I've got a backwards way of doing it that bypasses the tool you are supposed to use).

I'm running 3.24 also. I've been folding a couple of months but have only completed 8 WUs. I have no idea how it's set up, I just downloaded and ran it. I know I've not the fastest PC here but it's not exactly a slouch either, How can I get it to do more?, The PC is running all day every day.

bothered, sounds like the server at work. It's a 1.8 P4 and it must be real busy cause it churns out a wu maybe once a week. It's weird tho, occasionally I get this flurry of WUs out of it, like 1 every 1-2 days and It's a great bonus. I just wish it was more consistent.

Why are you losing your job? What happened? Did you get laid off?

Why would they give you a new PC if you are leaving?

All this time I thought the economy was getting better.

My school schedule in January will preclude me from being able to do this job, so in a sense I'm quitting and in a sense I'm getting laid off. The new PC is because I just happened to hit the right upgrade cycle for my P3-500 to be upgraded to the P4-3.06 this December... it's about half the employees now and half in Jan or Feb of next year for the upgrade.
