Windows XP install disc not booting

Hi there,
maybe someone has seen this before.
On my laptop i installed windows xp along with several linux distributions using grub as boot loader. Now I copied the partitions to a new larger hd. Booting into the linux distris works fine as expected, but windows won't. I already found out that the problem is that the windows install is on a different location on the hd as before. Tried to fix that by editing the bootsector on the windows partition with a hexeditor, but with no luck. Now my last resort before a reinstall is to try an repair install, but the laptop won't boot from the install cd. After it says "press any key to boot ..." it hangs on a black screen.
I googled for people with the same problem, but the only solution seems to wipe the disk and reinstall.
Thanks in advance ...
