HP OfficeJet T45 install problem on XP

After uninstalling my T45 software to try and correct a communications problem with my Presario, I downloaded the new HP install and drivers. WHen I attempt to run the HP Install program, I get the following message --"C:\windows\system32\autoexec.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS & Microsoft WIndows applications. Choose "Close" to terminate th eapploication." Since the printer and Presario have been happily and productively co-exisitng for years, I don't understand what the problem can be. Help greatly appreciated for this not very tech savvy user.
