Netgear W311v3 Problems

Hello all,

I have been having problems getting my Desktop PC connected to our wireless network for ever. I am running Windows Vista and I currently have a Netgear W311v3 wireless adapter. I have installed the card exactly as the instructions (install software, shut down, install card reboot PC). When I reboot I get a windows message to say that the card has been identified and successfully installed but there are no networks available. I checked in device manager and I am getting an exclamation mark next to it and in the device status it say "This device could not start (code 10)". A lot of people seem to be having problems with this card so I am resigned to the fact that I may have to buy a new one. I have the latest drivers (v3.1) and it is a clean vista installation.

Can anyone suggest a what else I could try or recommend a decent card that will work with Vista.

Thank you

Rich

Go here and download the "SK-54C1 Windows XP driver." Install it manually through device manager, and then reboot.

Yes, I realize you're running Vista. This driver is deliberate.

Cheers Thrax. Ill give it a go tonight.

When you say manually install through device manager do you mean download the file and save it locally. Run update the driver and point the updater to the file I downloaded?

Im sorry Thrax but there is no way you are human. No mere mortal could have known that would work!!!

As soon as I installed and rebooted up came all the wireless networks around. You are a true God!

Can I ask what I have done though?

I assume the driver you pointed me too uses the same chipset as the netgear and so should also work. I dont understand the XP bit though. Any way it all works so many thanks

I look forward to getting my ass kicked on TF2 soon!

The network driver model that Windows Vista uses is not substantially different from Windows XP. When there is a driver that XP will happily use, there's a strong chance that Vista will do the same. I provided you with the XP-32 driver for your card's chipset as provided by the OEM on the hunch that the strong chance would work in your favor.

    Cheers and enjoy.
