Virus removal help required please
Hi,
Thanks to the people who work very hard to keep what looks like an excellent resource up and running - keep up the good work!
Last night after installing some software on my laptop I had the following issues:
1. Desktop image changed
2. Task manager disabled
3. Display properties disabled
4. 'All Programs' on start menu gone
5. various pop up adds and windows
6. 'Virus Alert!' in task bar
7. Regedit disabled
I have managed to remove a number of the problems but the clock issue remains and I now get some startup errors when I re-start windows.
Any help that anyone can be to ensure I have this totally clean would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and if I try to boot into safe mode I get the normal windows blue screen of death!
Many thanks
Alex

Step 1:
Please download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
- Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
- By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
- Click on Install.
- It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
- Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
- Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
- Save the log to a convenient location as you'll need to post it here.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Step 2:
Please do a scan with Kaspersky (Note: Internet Explorer should be used).
- Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
- It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
- When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
- Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
- Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
- Archives
- Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
- Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
- You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
- Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
- Copy and paste the report into your next reply.
If you encounter any further problems, please report them to me.Waiting your reply.
Thanks for the reply, i've been doing soem work with HJT and ComboFix already and seam to be making good progress, just about to run a new scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, will see how things are looking when it's finished scanning.
I'll post latest status shortly.
