If it's just for the server and you don't want an active scanner then you can use winclam. It's so cheap -it's actually free. I use it on my servers here and it works well. I just have it do nightly scans and that's it. But it's not my only line of defense. All the desktops have a fulltime anti-virus scanner and all our emails go through an outside virus filter first. So really the server scans are like a last line of defense.
Typically though you don't want active scanning on a server anyway though because of the amount of load it generates and if it's a file server each computer that opens a file on the server will scan it with their active scan so active scanning on a file server is really not needed at all.

Yes we have active AV on all mac and PC clients --- I too just want to make sure the server gets a daily check.
For a school .... free is a very good price
