Who is your DSL provider and what make/model modem do they use? Sometimes it matters when you are troubleshooting.

To reset the router with the power off hold in the reset button and then plug in the power. Keep holding in the reset button and the lights should blink in series, and then go silent. It takes about 15 seconds. The let go of the reset and recycle the power to it.

Then with it only powered on and nothing else hooked-up. With your computer on connect it to one of the 10/100 lan ports, not the WAN port, and see if it detects the computer, it should be almost instant. If it doesn't show any activity from your computer then there is a very good chance you have a bad router.

If you do get activity showing from your computer then make sure your computer is set to connect through dhcp in it's network settings. At this point you should be able to open up a web page and connect to the router at either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (I forget which that one uses) by typing those address into the address bar of your web browser. This will take you to the admin page for that machine.

Then connect up your modem and configure it as need be for your ISP.
