Crossover Cable Connection
Yes, I already know I should have a network up using a router or switch, but for the time being, I'm practically forced to try using a direct pc-pc style network;
For this, I bought a crossover cable and connected each end to the two of the computers I wish to share files through. My newest computer I have just built recognizes the cable immediately, however, my old Compaq does not. The pc that recognizes the cable shows a LAN connection under Network Connection, but gives me the "Limited or no connection" notice (or something along those lines).
I've checked the device manager within my Compaq and my Ethernet Controller is giving me the "?" icon, as if it is unrecognized or without a driver.
So, is the problem here because some OS related setting is blocking the incoming connection, or am I missing drivers that are compatible with the crossover cable?
Thanks.

You need to give both of them an IP address.
Side note: When viewing both PCs from behind, the new rig shows a green light, while the Compaq other is giving an orange tinge.
Now... I know how to share folders and drives, but where can I find the shared folder on on one computer from the other?
