If you own a 360 and have never played Skate, go immediately download the demo. It's basically like the GTA of skateboarding. You have a huge city to roam around, and when you feel like it there are "missions" to do. Every Tony Hawk game ever created for every system put together doesn't even add up to 1/4 of this game. I'm not even a huge fan of skateboarding games, but this game changed my mind. The controls are ridiculous, watch the video about them.

Half Life 2 series
First, I'll have to divide it into two groups - Console games vs. PC games.
Then I'll have to divide it by genre.
With that said, here it is.
Console Games:
Action\Adventure: This is tough, as I love the Zelda and Mario series of games, but I have to go with Metroid, particularly Metroid Prime (GameCube). I could change this to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, once I get a chance to play it.
RPG: Well, my favorite series is Final Fantasy, but to pick a favorite would be a toss-up between FFVI(SNES) and FFVII(Playstation). I think in the end, I have to go with FFVII, only because it was in large part responsible for the popularity of the Playstation back in the day.
FPS: This is is the same answer as the one for Actions\Adventure - Metroid Prime(GameCube). Before this, the series was not an FPS genre, but after the Prime trilogy, that changed (and in a good way )
Strategy: Final Fantasy Tactics (Playstation version). This game had a complex, entertaining story (despite the poor original translation from Japanese to English), along with great game mechanics.
PC Games:
Action\Adventure: A little old school for this one. I have to say Prince of Persia (the original for the PC). A really addictive (and sometimes frustrating game).
RPG: A toss-up between Baldur's Gate series, the Ultima series, and the Elder Scrolls series, but I have to gp with Ultima VII: The Black Gate. This game (for its time) was incredible in the story, and as well as the way the world was opened up for manipulation, much like how Morrowind and Oblivion are today.
FPS: Halo. I don't like a lot of what Microsoft does, but I'll give them credit when it's due, and this game was great.
Strategy (single and multi-player): Starcraft. Hands-down, the best RTS I've ever played. 10 years after its release, I still play it, and I can't wait until SC2 comes out!
MMORPG: Guild Wars. Beautiful graphics, great gameplay, and no monthly fee!
All-Time: Final Fantasy VII over (barely) Ultima VII.
Would be the best game ever except for one small detail: Level eleven makes me want to throw the PC out the window, and jump after it.
I understand this sentiment.... Believe me, I do...
