Get other ports/programs to use Proxy?
DOSMAN

I know it can be done.
Our school uses a proxy server to handle web traffic, and therefore we are not given an internet connection.
I want to be able to use VNCViewer at school, and all the tech teachers want to be able to play EverQuest.
So how can I go about doing this? I've heard of some programs (mostly for Linux) that can "proxify" your connection, having all traffic absorbed and then sent through the proxy. I've also heard rumors of having a separate comp act as a "translator" between your workstation and the network, translating all your TCP/IP traffic to use the proxy server.
I'd appreciate any help.

The problem is, since "not having an internet connection" means that the proxy probably doesn't send data past it (probably unless it hits an internal address, or a predefined address, like a webserver in another city deemed accessable. Example includes student work folders, internal web pages for teachers and probably an email server for teachers, as I'm guessing your teachers are allowed email from the outside for parent/teacher conversation).
Now here's the kicker. You're probably also dealing with network admins who know what is and isn't supposed to be going out of the proxy. If they see external traffic coming in from, say an EverQuest server, they'll call your school (since they probably have PC IP's on a chart, or at least have ranges written down). Not to mention they probably have some fancy-smancy firewall and proxy and networking monitoring software to handle all this. And don't doubt these guys just because they work for the school system. Many of us here would jump on the chance for a job in an area of computers we enjoy, so that's probably what happened with them. They want to keep their jobs, so they put effort into it. That and they wanna try to feel more 1337 than the students
I'm not sure how this will work with a game though. VNC uses only 1 port, and I doubt that Everquest will be so easy.
But hey, I got what I wanted. Now I'm just doing it to help out others (and make myself look uber 1337)
