Firefox Bookmark Problem

Recently, when I try saving a bookmark in Firefox it will show up in the bookmarks, but when I close the program and reopen, the bookmark will be gone. Previously, I had trouble where I could not add bookmarks (I'd hit add and nothing would happen, the dialogue would not close). I tried some things I found on Google to meliorate that, but I cannot figure this new problem out.

I'm on 10.5.5

    or create a new places.sqlite in your profile directory.

    Is there a way I can completely blast out Firefox and all profiles so that I reinstall fresh and just add bookmarks by hand?

    This should clean it off for you.

    Drag the Firefox application to the Trash.

    Delete:
    ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist
    ~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox
    ~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla
    ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox

    This will remove all profiles, settings, extensions etc...

    Empty the Trash and reload.
