Windows XP boot problem - after splash before login

My mistake was using partition magic. When the computer gets past the XP splash screen it immediately tries to complete a function requested by partition magic (setting a certain partition active)... the process fails and then the computer locks up... only intervention is to pull the a/c plug. I tried looking at the boot.ini through recovery console. It doesn't look like that is where I can stop partition magic from trying to run this process.

How do I simply set my computer back to the normal boot??? which file has been edited by partition magic?

p.s. the active partition stuff i was doing has nothing to do with my root drive.

having a bad day

thanks

grrrrrrrrrrrrr rar.... i don't know what exactly worked. I booted into BartPE trying to find a solution. looked for a specific regkey in regedit. then rebooted b/c i didn't find what i was looking for. upon reboot i pressed F8 and selected "last known good config that worked"... then it did the chkdsk thing it always does and went into windows without a problemo.

    success
