NEW Messenger Plus! v2.54.0074 released

edited December 2003 in Science & Tech
A new version of the popular MSN Messenger add-on program Messenger Plus! has been released.

[blockquote]New features and fixes:
-Important internal change regarding the way Messenger is accessed by Messenger Plus!. The goal of this change is to minimize problems caused by Windows Messenger in Windows XP.

-New feature: come-back messages! you've been asking for this since the existence of Messenger Plus!, you know have it thanks to the popup-menu integration added in the version 2.50 two months ago. This feature lets you record a message for an offline contact that will be sent the next times the contact signs-in.

-The "Set Come-back Message" menu entry is grayed-out when the contact is not offline.

-Messages are sent like Personalised Status auto messages with the only difference that they are not displayed in italic.

-To avoid flooding your contacts, come-back messages are sent only 7 to 15 seconds after the contact signs-in.

-You can use commands as come-back message. This can be used, for example, to automatically send a file to someone you were waiting for (with the /dropfile command).

-You can now use the (!M) and (!N) tags in your custom names to automatically add the email or the original name of your contact. You can use each tag only once per name. Example: "Charlot [(!N)]"...

"Since I installed Messenger Plus! on my computer I noticed advertisement programs, why?

Messenger Plus! now comes with an optional sponsor program. This program will show ads from time to time on your computer and will change your start page in Internet Explorer. In NO case this sponsor is mandatory. If you don't want it, simply uncheck the sponsor box during setup. If you installed it be error, just uninstall Messenger Plus! (which will trigger the sponsor uninstall program) and reinstall without the sponsor.

Important: if you wish to get rid of the sponsor program, you must uninstall Messenger Plus! from the usual Add/Remove program window. Don't worry, you'll be able to reinstall it later and chose not to install the sponsor anymore. If you start deleting files on your own you will prevent a full system restore as some of the files copied by the sponsor are backups of your original configuration files. For detailed instructions, check out special posts on the forum."

I don't see why your wincing mate:) , the above quote is a good thing. I've used Messenger Plus! for a long time and they've never hidden the fact that the application does come with other 'spyware' type applications, and they've always made every effort to make sure the users of the software can choose whether or not to install the additional applications. It is perfectly understandable why they have sponsor applications, it's so they can afford to keep developing their freeware product.

For example, in the installation of this latest version of Messenger Plus! there is no way to install the software without a screen popping up asking you whether or not you want to install the sponsor programs, you can't just miss it and accidentally install the sponsors, because you have to physically choose yes or no. You can't get fairer than that.

In my experience the people\the guy behind Messenger Plus! has been nothing but fantastic in the way they develop, produce and update their software. They listen to customer feedback and seem to bend over backwards to bring us a free, and genuinely useful application.

Do you actually use Messenger Plus! panzerkw?

I not trying to have a go, I just feel strongly about making sure program developers that are genuinely out to produce software people want, especially ones that are free, get the proper support and are not slandered when they just try and keep their software development a float.
