folding box has gone to re-boot land

One of my KT7A folding boxes has started random self rebooting. I had some errors in one of the FAH installs so I wiped it. It has early dumped 4 or 5 wus and now and I can't keep it on at all. I have backed down to stock voltages and speeds, no change.

It is running w2k. I run AVG and spybot, both come up clean, if it will run that long....

Tonight I am going to run memtest, then remove the hsf and reseat the cpu and hsf.

If that doesn't do it what next?? I can slap another cpu in. I don't have a spare psu...
I am looking for tips.

This box has reliably run for a month at a time without reboot and has finished over 400 wus, I need it back.

Check the caps on the mobo for bulging or leakage.

mem first, then a visual of the mobo. This has been running at high voltage for months. In fact it was v-moded by someone else and I bought it used.
Maybe I have another KT7 laying around somewhere....

    mobo visual is OK
    memtest, 4140 errors!!!!!!!
pull single stick of pc150, wipe off dust, place into different slot
    No errors

    We are folding
Maybe dust, maybe bad slot, maybe bad contact. Don't really care.

I tend, if I retire slots, to air them out with air can, check again, then if never will use them as are really bad, use a bead of clear Silicone caulk in them to keep myself or next owner from using.

After running smooth for a few days, it has started again.
memtest errors in the same test location. In a different slot.
What do you think, mem controler or the memory it self?

I will try to steal some mem from my wifes machine and check it later.

Sounds like a 50/50 chance on either being the problem. Personally, I would lean more towards the ram being iffy though.

Agreed, very highly probable it is the DIMM or SIMM module, if happens in multiple sockets. A contact cleaner pen, run over the metal "finger" contacts on DIMM or SIMM edge, might help. Or possibly might not, but you would be amazed what a TINY amount of corrosion on any DIMM "finger" contacts will do to gen errors. Especially the old silver looking ones, which are NOT silver usually, and tarnish and get corroded due to galvanic\electrolytic reactions.

pulled memory from my wifes machine and so far so good.
Now to get over to the DDTP and find some cheap PC150.

My wife wonders why we have 'so many' computer problems. Hers have all been flakey IBM drives. Mine have all been because I try to see what I can get from other peoples used equipment.
