DSi?

Just curious, what are your guys' opinions on the new DSi coming out sometime next year to replace Nintendo's DS lite.

here are some links in case you didn't know...

It sucks that there is no GBA support. Of course, I'll admit, I use mostly ROMs, (both DS and GBA) but I have a special cart that allows me to use the GBA slot for a RAM expansion/Rumble Pack and such, and it also allows me to run GBA roms off of my slot-1 cart.

Some people say that the included SD card slot will allow for MORE piracy (I don't know how much easier piracy on a DS could get ) but others argue that the region-locking will make it harder. I have no idea. I don't know if my slot-1 card (Acekard 2) will work with the new DSi.

What do y'all think?

I don't have a DS or anything of the sort, but the decrease in battery life and the general specs just don't impress me that much. Doesn't seem like enough of a change to warrant making the change in the first place. I could be wrong, though... who knows what they'll find to do with that camera.

I think the fact that Nintendo intends the DSi to coexist with the DS suggests how weak of a product it is. Nintendo knows it's not strong enough, or next-gen enough to supplant the DS, so it threw it out there as an alternative to new purchasers who don't have a GBA library.

    I agree.

It'll be great for fanboys (which I use in this case to mean people who feel they must own everything that Nintendo releases) and for people who want to get into the DS for the first time, but I don't think the average DS user will have any need or desire to upgrade.

I have a DS Lite. I couldn't care less about the DSi. If I were new to the DS market, I'd consider it.

Forget about DS. They need to make the Wii better.

It is interesting that Nintendo thinks it will coexist with the DS. I'm not planning on upgrading, but my bf is. I'll play with it when he gets it.

I will say though, it will be able to connect to a WPA secured network (not just the weaker WEP), and I wish my DS lite could do that.

I'm still running around with an old school DS and have been considering going to a DS Lite for a while (although I don't play often, having to lug around that gigantic contraption makes it so not portable). Unfortunately, I have a GBA set of games (thats the majority of my games, actually) so its kinda pointless for me to upgrade.

You mean upgrading to the DS Lite? There's a GBA Slot on the DS Lite... so you could upgrade and still play all of your GBA games. It's just the DSi that is lacking (and that's what makes it stink imo)

I use a special card in my GBA slot that allows me to play GBA ROMS, but I still have some old carts that I use with mine (Fire Emblem!!)
