The reason why we fold!

edited December 2003 in Folding@Home
As a lot of people here on the team know, I originally started folding with overclockers.com and came here about 1 1/2 years ago. I still check on what they are doing every once in a while and shortly after I came in from work last week I stopped over at their folding forum. I came across this thread over there by one of my old team mates, and I figured I'd share it here. NedClocker also folded for our team for a couple of weeks when we were Team Icrontic before the forum wipeout, so he has also been a contributing member to Team 93 in the past. This is a quote of the first post in the thread, by NedClocker:
Sharon passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 06.

The funeral was Tuesday morning, the 9th.

December 8th was our 13th wedding anniversary.

On Thanksgiving day, the doctors told us that there were no treatments that could help her. They had tried them all.

Thank you all very much for your prayers, thoughts, and support.
It meant more to me and my family than words can adequately express.

She fought long and hard.

The doctors said she had about 4 months to live.
She lived for 3 years and 4 months.

It's hard to believe she's gone.

Sometimes I think of something I want to ask her or tell her, then it hits me. I cant; she's gone.

All the competition is fun, but deaths like this are the real reason we fold. If we can help cure cancers or Alzheimers through our contributions to this project, well to me that's worth more than money. His wife, Sharon, was either in her late 30's or early 40's with a small child. Now, NedClocker has to raise his family without his loving wife, which will be hard.

Let's fold on and see if we can help make a difference! :fold:

That is the reason I fold. Many family members have had or have cancer.
It is scary to think that a life can be taken away so easily by disease and in many cases there is nothing that can be done about it.

I fold for the future of my family. :fold:

    That is so sad.

Above all else, I Fold because there is a chance that somewhere down the road the research being done will help save people in that situation.

If it can keep one little kid from losing a parent, one husband from losing a loving wife, one parent from having to say goodbye to a sweet little child, then it will all be worth it a million times over.
