I just bought a new radeon 9600 XT and it is pretty good for the price. It came with a utility called Overdrive which aparently overclocks the gpu to the optimum speed for the temperature. I was wondering if this was any good, or if I should just manually overclock it.

Assuming that you know your case stays a consistent temperature, I would overclock it manually so you can enjoy the benefits of having a consistent performance increase.
