Stupid Word problem

I have this absolutely stupid problem, where as when I open word, it copies a miniture picture of a phone to the clipboard when it opens, regardless of whether I am opening an existing document, or making a new one. This is highly annoying because I normally have something I need in the clipboard.

The actual picture that is sent to the clipboard is attached.

I don't mean to thread crap or anything, and as soon as I get a chance I'll search for some info on your problem, but....

I find that incredibly funny for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe it's this lack of sleep. Ah, well... Good luck and I shall return. :)

Yeah, I thought it was quite funny too to start with, I was like....... WTF is this?....

Bit later... WTF.... where did that come from?!

Especially if I am image editing at the same time, if I open word, then paste in the image software, I end up with that stupid phone Icon in there.

You could try doing a repair of office.

Doesn't really sound like something a repair would fix as it isn't really a "problem" as such..... i'll try it later anyway....

Perhaps the normal.dat is corrupt? Maybe set up and save a new template.

Yes, I'd have thought normal.dat has been saved with a picture of this little phone.

That would be my first bet. Second would be clearing my browser cache, and all temp files. Third would be cussing a lot and kicking the side of the machine.

Hope one of them works for you.

Well, I scanned my PC, and I don't have any files named either normal.doc or normal.dat on my machine, including hidden files/folders. Which seems quite wierd....

Right, the file is "normal.dot" and it's not that as it does it with all word documents, not just blank templates.

This is the stupidest problem EVER.

    Look for normal.dot

Document template file. (Also the target of some viruses...)

We posted at the same time, but until you Save a file, you are merely making a temporary change to normal.dot.

Sometimes these problems happen when you're trying to save a file and something goes whacko. Try deleting normal.dot - this will force Word to make a new one. If that doesn't happen, try extracting it on your own.

Whoops, yeah, sorry on the normal.dot

Have you cleaned the temporary files as profdlp suggested?

I hate to say this, but normal.dot recreate and emptying the dang multi-part clipbook in Word might solve this, and look at the macros in docs.... I THINK this is a save of a doc witha save of normal.dot with something in the clipbook, but could also be something macroish of malignant or mischevous sort that crept in. No change a brother played with a macro call in normal.dot, is there??? AFAIK, most of it is legible in WordPad or OpenOffice.org

Deleting all the normal.dot files on this machine didn't help, and the multi-part clipbook is cleared anyway, so it can't be that. The phone is still appearing
