Problem with Outlook 2002

edited November 2008 in Science & Tech
Hi all,
I'm having a recent problem with Outlook 2002. Incoming messages from just one of my contacts have changed. I see the paperclip but no attachment is there. The font of the text has changed and now every line is preceeded by >> symbols. Any links or pictures in the body of the text are gone, not even any red "x"'s. Other people are receiving his emails just fine so I think it's on my end.
Did I change something?
Thanks

Hey I have a little more info that may help someone figure out my problem.
When I check my email directly at comcast.net, it's fine.
Attachment and pictures are removed only after I pull them to Outlook. If I foward them on from Outlook as-is, the attachment/picture that I can't see is fowarded on.
It's got to be some sort of security setting, right?
    Thanks.

Yes it is a security feature.... Outlook, by default, strips out HTML and images from emails unless you do one of two things.

One... add the sender to your "Safe Sender List". To do this, right click on an email that comes from someone you do not want to filter and click on the "Junk E-mail" option and select "Add Sender to Safe Sender List". Then every email from that person will come as it was sent. Just be careful, if he sends an infected email, you will download the same infection...

Two... Change the default settings to allow HTML and images. I advise against this since embedded images and HTML is a common way to infect systems with spyware and viruses. However, if you really want to do it, go to "Tools" menu and select "Options"... Then the "Security" tab and look near the midle of the window for Download Pictures area and click the "Change Automatic Download Settings...". The next window has the option to uncheck the default setting that keeps you from receiving the images.

I'm not able to set up either one of those options.
For the first suggestion - There is no "safe sender list". (The junk email option wasn't even set up.)

For the second suggestion - There is no "download pictures" section on my home computer. I know what you're talking about because I checked for this on my work computer today and I saw what you were talking about.

This is for Outlook 2002. There are quite a few updates for Outlook/Office 2007 - mostly automatic. Could one of these have changed something?

    Thanks
