AppInit_DLL Problem - Renaming

Hi all,

I discovered the AppInit_DLL virus on my computer and found several forums on how to fix it. I tried renaming my Windows registry folder to "Windows2" and deleting the virus files, but they recreated themselves in a new "Windows" folder. I can't rename the Windows2 folder back to "Windows" because of this, and couldn't find anyone else having this problem. Any help?

Thanks in advance (popups are horrible when you're trying to write papers :()

Hi and welcome to the forums.

    Step 1:

I don't see an AntiVirus or a Firewall program running in memory. :hair:

Make sure you're using Windows XP firewall, and download & install one free AntiVirus (for non-commercial home use only):

    Step 2:

Please download OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
    • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
      :Reg
      [-HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045}]

      :Files
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\towoyila.dll
      C:\windows\system32\verazemi.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\guyifuhi.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\fayebuzu.dll

    • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Click the red Moveit! button.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
    • Close OTMoveIt3

    Step 3:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
    • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
      • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply.
    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this: C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Please post the OTMoveIt3 log and the results of MBAM scan along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Do you need the MBAM log as well? I'm also wondering if kbdap32a.exe is harmful or not. Thanks :)

Side note - I went back to regedit and this time renaming the Windows folder worked! Yay :D

    Step 1:

Please run HijackThis and click Do a system scan only.

When the scan is complete, place a check next to the following entries:

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\fayebuzu.dll

After this, close ALL open windows/programs and click Fix Checked.

    Step 2:

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: Internet Explorer should be used

    • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
    • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
    • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
    • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
      • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      • Archives
    • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
    • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
    • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
