No sound from headphones

edited November 2008 in Science & Tech
I've recently formatted my hard drive but I now have no sound from my headphones. I've installed the audio drivers and haven't touched any connections. Everything was working fine before I formatted. I have the headphones and surround sound speakers connected via an audio splitter. I have sound from my speakers. If it's any help the drivers are Nvidia. Thanks.

Not sure. I've installed some drivers I had on a disc. It'a a PC that my friend built me. Should I uninstall them and install the ones you've posted?

The drivers from the Cd are probably so old that it is no wonder they don't totally work. Download the driver and install it over the old drivers. Let us know if that works for you. :)

I ran the set up file and it everything looked familiar to what I've already installed. Still nothing I'm afraid.

OK, right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage". Navigate to Device Manager and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks or unknown devices.

In the audio panel, how many speakers is the panel configured to play sound from? 2? 2.1? 5.1?

5.1. I tried the headphones option to see if that would do the trick but alas, no.

I do apologise for posting again but I don't know if the following might be related. I have no sound on start up or logging off. Also no sound on Youtube or Myspace. This is through my speakers. I continue to get sound in WMP. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my audio drivers. This is driving me slightly mad!
