Quad core only showing up as 2 cores/threads

Hi, basically, one of my friends quadcores is only showing up as 2 cores. 2 cores in task manager. 2 cores and 2 threads in cpu-z. It is reconising it as a Q6600 Core 2 Quad which is right but only 2 of its cores. He has installed the chipset drivers and his motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R.

    do you have the latest bios for that board?

    Well, its not my PC. I think he does not. I have told him to update it to the lastest one.

    Right, he has updated the bios to the lastest version yet stil the problem persists.

    does the bios recognize it as 2 cores or 4

    Well, we have found the solution. It wasnt anything to do with the bios. He just reinstalled Vista and now it works. Thanks for the suggestions.
