Their power consumption is still way too high for my liking. The Core 2 Quad 45nm processors of the same speed have a TDP of 95W. Hopefully AMD still has a few power saving tricks up their sleeves.
It could be that they are simply rating their TDP in accordance with the standard set by Intel with the Core i7 series, all of which are rated at something like 130W. The actual TDP is lower than that. It would seem that neither manufacturer wants to show their hand when it comes to TDP, unfortunately.
The interesting thing about the TDP ratings is that they play on an old marketing gimmick: As long as you know that it's lower than they rated it, the actual differential is up to your imagination... And can be influenced by clever marketing.
