Amazon.com lit up during holiday rush

Looks like Amazon will post a fourth-quarter profit... maybe even its first overall profit for the year?

[blockquote]A single-day record of more than 2.1 million units ordered, or a rate of 24 items a second, was set during the season, Amazon.com said. The company, which first sold shares to the public in 1997, wouldn't specify on which day the record was set.

Amazon.com, whose shares have doubled this year, is forecasting record fourth-quarter revenue. The company, based in Seattle, might have its first profitable year as it added new shops for the holidays and gave customers more time to qualify for free shipping.[/blockquote]
