Crash notifier?

edited December 2003 in Science & Tech
Every so often for reasons I am unsure of, my comp (in sig) would spontaneously reboot. Not while playing a game, not while benchmarking, but while sitting in at the desktop, folding.

I could use my comp for hours on end, but it appears that when I'm not in front of it, the machine would promptly reboot.

The only ways I know the comp is rebooting, is because I A: Am in bed, trying to fall asleep, and I hear/see the comp reboot, or B: I notice the uptime counter in CoolMon is lower than it ought to be.

Anyways, is there any little application out there which could simply notify me if the computer has reset w/o me doing it myself, so I don’t have to try and remember to check the uptime counter every time I sit down in front of it?

Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Event Viewer.

There, you can look at Application, Security, and System messages. You should be able to figure out what the icons mean :)

    Already checked. Nothing in there.

Is there nothing in the Event Viewer relation to the crashes, or nothing at all?

But anyway, when did this start happening, and did you switch any hardware in/out?

Try unplugging some of the 5.25" drives. When I had a faulty CD-RW, I had periodic system restarts similar to what you're describing. If you don't use the NF7's onboard audio, try pulling your Soundcard out.
