MS Office auto-tab

edited December 2008 in Science & Tech
OK, so while I was writing a paper MS office kept automatically tabbing every time I hit enter. I found this immensely useful but I goofed up and had to press backspace, erasing parts of my paragraph. Office didnt like this too much and thought I didnt want it to auto-tab anymore and now I cant figure out how to turn it back on. Anybody know?

Sounds like you need to spend some time customizing your Tools -> AutoCorrect Options. Particularly the AutoFormat options.

You can set up how your paragraphs format in the 'Format Paragraph' Dialog box. I'll tell you how to get to it, if you tell me which version of Word you are using.

Oops, I knew I was forgetting SOMETHING. Im using Word 2007.

I tried setting the auto-correct options and using a different layout, but nothing seemed to work

First click the 'more' link in the lower right of the 'Paragraph' segment of the 'Home' Ribbon.

I've circled it in Green here:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=26451&stc=1&d=1229117293

This will open the Paragraph dialog box, which can be used two ways: You can set the paragraph options before you begin typing or you can paragraphs that you've already written by highlighting them before you open the dialog box.

What you want is to change the first line indentation, which is under the 'Special' drop down of the 'Indentation' segment of the 'Indents and Spacing' tab. I've circled it here for you:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=26450&stc=1&d=1229117293

As I said: Change that either before you start typing or highlight what you have and change it when you're done. Eitherway, this panel gives you a lot of control over what your paragraphs look like.
