multi quote

I've heard from a lot of people that the multi-quote button is confusing and that people don't use it. Is there general consensus that it might as well be removed or that it should somehow be more apparent what its use it?

I don't know how to make it more apparent without a box that says "check here to quote this post when replying," which is of course big and dumb. Get rid of it entirely? That's my vote.

I think it's useful if you're replying to multiple posts, otherwise some wonderful ninja editing comes in. I think part of the problem is it being labeled as a double quote instead of being a little more informative...

If its that big a deal, I'm with Thrax though, nix it.

    ^^

You know where this type of quote functionality would be a lot more useful? In the Advanced Reply area.

For example, when in the Advanced Reply area, you should be able to select text from the thread view at the bottom and hit a button which automatically inserts the selected text as an attributed quote in your reply.

This way you could have a mechanism for selectively quoting multiple posts by different authors without doing a bunch of tedious hand editing.

But I suppose that was too much to ask of the VBulletin chimps.

On the occasions where I do reply to multiple people, it's invaluable. If they can't hover over it and see the tooltip to understand what it does, I don't know what will illuminate them...

The only real downside to removing it is the people responding four times in a row to a thread because they can't quote them all at once - but then, they do that now, don't they?

    Ambivalent, I suppose.
