Wireless adapter on laptop acting strange

edited December 2008 in Science & Tech
Hey, Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I am not sure if this should go in hardware or software.

My wifi adapter on my laptop recently started acting funny. It stopped asking for passwords into networks. And it would try to auto connect to it without a pw and fail every time. I tried to format the computer but that didn't work. Then I tried a second format, and it's still doing the same thing. It just one day randomly stopped asking for it.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks

What OS are you on? If you are on Windows Vista: What happens when you go through the 'Setup a Connection or Network' Wizard from the Network Sharing Center?

It is a fairly old laptop, about 5 years or 7 years. It is running Windows XP on it. Pentium 4, SiS 962L Motherboard. With an onboard Atheros AR5001X Mini PCI Wireless Adapter

hmm... Ive never experienced network wizard acting wierd on XP... I had it hiccup on Vista but not XP... Could your wireless adapter be breaking down? is it able to connect to non-password protected networks?
