Does anyone have experience running a Linux distribution from a USB drive? I'd like to use Linux to get a bit more into python and understanding the ins and outs.

I've done it (tenuously) with Ubuntu. It depends on the distro, but with Ubuntu, if you put the LiveCD on a USB drive and then give that USB drive another partition with a particular name, it will treat it as a persistent Live drive and store all your files and whatnot there.

This should get you started, and if you have other questions, post 'em up. Might make for a nice article too, a la TT's triple-booting article. ;)

So, since USB drives are like $10 now, would I be best off with something large?

    I put mine on a 16gb drive.
