    Hi Amon,

A few things to look at:
    1) When did you last run Error Checker? Go into error checker and check both check boxes. This will prompt you to schedule an error checker on next restart. Click OK and restart your machine.
    2) Run Disk Defragmenter.
    3) Download Avast (www.avast.com/). Install and run the check.
    4) Download Ad-Aware (www.downloads.com) Install and run the check.

    Report back with the results.

    Hi amon,

Welcome to Icrontic. Don't worry about your English, if we need you to clarify anything we will ask.

I'm not sure that booting into safe mode with networking will solve your problem. Safe mode with networking should only ever be used as a very last resort. It completely exposes your PC to security threats and I don't know what you would gain from doing it.

I do have a few questions.

Is this a new laptop or one you have had for a while?
have you erased the hard disk and completly re-installed XP or was the PC running SP2 and you upgraded to SP3?

When we know a bit more about the history of the problem we can offer you the correct advice to fix it.

edit// as myself and betsyd were posting at the same time. I dont think this is likly to be spyware related (although it is a possibility) If he cant boot the PC he wont be able to install avast or adaware. First thing we need to do is find the cause of the problem. I currently agree that nost likely cause is HD or possibly RAM, however it could be software/driver related. If the PC is not freshly installed we can use system restore to remove SP3 then atempt to re-install. Good thinking though and its nice to know that someone else was thinking on my lines! ;)

I don't see anything in his post that indicates that he can't boot the PC at all just that it restarts all the time. Every 12 months or so my computer does the same thing and its generally spyware or virus. Although one time it was because one of the fans had stopped working and my computer was overheating.

ETA: I subscribe to the KISS methodology of problem fixing. Until I am told that something is happening I assume that it isnt.

    Sorry Betsy,

I wasn't saying that it wasn't spyware but just that there are a lot of causes of BSODs. Without more info we cant be sure. Also you might like this to remove Malware. MalwareBytes is extremely thorough and will take care of a lot of things that adaware and spybot s&d won't.
