  1. Right click on My Computer
  2. Hit "properties"
  3. Look at the string of numbers in the "Registered to:" section of the System Properties panel.
  4. Look at the first eight digits (XXXXX-YYY)
This is a section of your Product ID, which is generated from your CD key and your installation media.

The first five digits are the platform code, which indicate the platform, build and version of Windows. As an example, 55274 is a generic OEM edition of Windows XP Pro.

The next three digits are your CID -- or, channel ID -- which reveal the distribution channel your copy of Windows XP took to get to you.

These eight digits can definitively determine your current version of Windows without the installation media, a Microsoft COA, or any other form of identifying information.

To match your Product ID's platform code and product ID, please go here.

As a note
: CID #006 is a promotional ID. It is not retail, OEM, or anything else. It's a copy of Windows XP given for a promotional or charitable event. It's not on Lunarsoft's table, so I'm adding it here.
