New Virus?

When I started my computer this morning, if I use Google search with IE7, all results send me to pages of pornography. Also, I can't update my AVG FREE database. Similar problems occur with Flock. I have since reinstalled Firefox to get on the internet.

I just read a similar post on the CNET virus forum. Someone reports similar virus database update failures with two other virus protection programs.

This seems to be a very malicious virus that I haven't identified yet.

I hope there are others with more knowledge who can offer advice.

I'm not sure if this is going to help BUT there is a host file on your computer that can be altered to give your URL redirections. Such if you're trying to go to worldofwarcraft.com it can be changed to go to any other IP.

It's actually pretty cool :-) Search youtube for "household hacker" and there's a pretty funny video

p.s. why are you using google search with IE?!?!? If you like google search, get chrome...screw the add ons

    My 2 cents

Actually, I normally use Flock or Firefox. Whatever this is, it causes the same problem with all previously installed browsers. After I discovered the problem, I re-installed Firefox and this allowed me to find this forum.

What ever this thing is, it seems to also block any attempt by virus detection software to update the virus database.

    Thanks for your help,
    Ray

Well if you're going to get any help from Icrontic, you're going to need to post your "HiJack This" log.
